“Hold it,” said Dave. “There might be more trouble.”

He was looking out to sea, and now they could all hear the dull drone of a boat motor.

“There,” said Dr. Cooper, pointing.

Dave grabbed his binoculars and took a better look. “Too dark to tell if they’re friendly or not. I don’t see them smiling, anyway.”

“How big a boat is it?”

“Ehh ... not too big, no bigger than ours, I think. But it has speed, and they’re using all of it. They re in a hurry to get here.”

Dr. Cooper looked around, trying to think of their options. “The Sutolos on one side, this unknown bunch on the other, and an unknown island in between ...”

“I have some guns below,” said Dave. “I say we bring them out.”
